Check Bosnia and Herzegovina explicitly in both your mobile subscription and the eSIM you are considering. If arriving from another country, the terms for the previous stop are not sufficient. Airalo has a dedicated Bosnia and Herzegovina catalogue .

Choose around the route you will take
A stay in Sarajevo, a visit to Mostar and an itinerary with several borders may lead to different purchase decisions. Make an ordered list of countries and dates before opening a package catalogue.
Scroll the table to see every column.
| Journey | Main question | Useful comparison |
|---|---|---|
| A stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina | Is your existing roaming sufficient? | Home subscription versus local data |
| A visit from a neighbouring country | How will you use the phone that day? | A short pass, existing allowance or additional data |
| Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia | Does the regional offer list every country? | Combined local purchases versus a shared offer |
| Returning through the same countries | Will the plan still be valid on the return? | All dates, not only the first entry |
The European Commission distinguishes the Roam Like at Home area from destinations outside it. “Still in Europe” is therefore not a tariff rule. Your carrier may include additional countries, but that must be established from its terms.
Package inclusion and a signal along the road are different checks
The first question is contractual: does the product include Bosnia and Herzegovina? The second concerns your actual route: what information is available about service at the places you will visit?
Use the Airalo destination page to begin checking the offer. Find the named network and package conditions, then examine your stops using information available from the provider or network. A network icon in a city does not guarantee a connection on every subsequent road segment.
Download maps and directions before moving on. Keep bookings and useful phone numbers in an offline note. If you must connect at a particular time, arrange a concrete option with your accommodation rather than scheduling a meeting around an assumed continuous signal on the road.
Make a fair cost comparison
Check total price, data, duration and the start of validity for the local eSIM. If visiting more countries, open the Europe catalogue and inspect the selected offer's destination list. Do not replace that step with an old list copied from an article.
Compare solutions capable of covering the same dates and allowances. If a cheaper option still requires another purchase for the return journey, include it in the total. If a stop is already covered by usable data, avoid paying again for a need that has been met.

Before each border crossing
- Save instructions for the package intended for your next destination.
- Check remaining data, expiry and the selected mobile data line.
- Verify calls and SMS on your usual number separately.
- Keep the next property's contact details and directions offline.
- Try the connection after arrival, before depending on it for an appointment.
The pre-departure eSIM checklist completes the device preparation. If you need access to account verification codes, also read WhatsApp and SMS while travelling .
Frequently asked questions
Can I keep using the plan that works in Croatia?
Only if its terms also include Bosnia and Herzegovina. A connection in your previous country does not establish coverage in the next one.
Do I need separate eSIMs for Sarajevo and Mostar?
Do not buy twice simply because you change cities. Check destination inclusion, validity and the network at your specific stops; changing accommodation does not itself require another package.
What if data stops working after the border?
Check the provider's instructions, destination inclusion and selected data line. Keep offline documents and purchase details available for support. Deleting the profile should not be your first troubleshooting step.
