For a journey through Albania, Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, choose a regional package only after verifying all four countries in its details. Otherwise, compare the local purchases needed with any useful home roaming. “Europe” and “Balkans” are not contractual destination lists.
Sources reviewed: 23 October 2026. This is a documentary guide. The matrix below is a decision tool, not a guarantee that every product includes these countries.
Begin with the subscription you already own
Do not automatically apply conditions familiar from Croatia, Greece or another EU country to every stop. The European Commission distinguishes the Roam Like at Home area from the Western Balkans process. Check your carrier's current terms for each country; any further inclusions are features of that offer.
This also matters when starting in a covered country. A working connection at the first stop does not establish that the same price or package applies after crossing the border. If your SIM is issued outside the EU/EEA, examine its own roaming rules directly.
Build a matrix before buying
Write arrival and departure dates beside each country, including any return visits. For each candidate product, mark a destination “included” only when the current package details confirm it. If it is unconfirmed, do not treat it as covered in the comparison.
Scroll the table to see every column.
| Stop | Local source to check | Regional-package check | Home-plan check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Albania | Airalo Albania | Is the country in the selected product? | Data and days included? |
| Montenegro | Airalo Montenegro | Is it covered during the return too? | Pass required and its cost? |
| Serbia | Airalo Serbia | Does validity last until this stop? | Sufficient allowance? |
| Bosnia and Herzegovina | Airalo Bosnia and Herzegovina | Is the exact country named? | Conditions checked separately? |
For regional options, begin with the Europe catalogue , then open the selected package details. The table does not claim a particular offer includes all four countries. Its purpose is to avoid confusing a commercial label with actual coverage.
Compare three strategies
One regional offer. It is a candidate when it includes every stop, lasts for the whole journey and provides a suitable allowance. Treat convenience and total cost as separate criteria.
Separate local packages. These may fit stops with different lengths and usage. Add every necessary purchase, including any return visit after a package expires. Do not compare one country's price against the cost of an entire regional itinerary.
Existing roaming plus additional data. This can make sense when your home subscription covers some stops already. Establish what is usable instead of assuming that “Europe included” means every country on the route.
The comparable cost is the amount that covers the complete calendar. Unit price per GB is secondary when offers have different durations or destinations.
A calendar example with a return visit
Imagine four consecutive stops followed by a return through the first country. Before buying, check whether the package for that first stop remains valid on your return. If not, another purchase belongs in the original cost comparison.
Do not assume validity pauses when you leave a country. Save the rules and expiry time shown by the provider. A precise decision needs actual dates, not merely the number of nights at each property.
A routine at every border
Before leaving an available connection, check the next destination, allowance, expiry and package instructions. Save tickets, addresses, contacts and directions offline. Note which line should handle data.
Keep calls and SMS on your usual SIM separate from the data selection. For account access and your WhatsApp number, use the dedicated guide . If mobile data does not resume, compare settings with the provider's instructions instead of immediately deleting the profile.
The current New Airalo guide distinguishes device-based package management from the previous model. The number of borders crossed does not automatically determine how many eSIM profiles to install.
Country inclusion does not mean a signal on every road
Check network information for the actual stops and download maps before departure. For accommodation or work commitments, ask for specific information and arrange a backup. A country-inclusion table addresses a contractual question; it does not measure signal along a road.

Frequently asked questions
Must I buy four packages?
Not necessarily. A regional package that genuinely covers the route, or included home roaming, may reduce the purchases needed. Check countries, dates and allowances first.
Is a Europe offer sufficient?
The name alone is insufficient. Open the exact package's list and check every country, including short stops and return visits.
Can I choose only by price per GB?
No. First make duration and destinations equivalent. Then compare total spending, the services you need and ease of management.
